How Bruno Gmünder does crowdfunding—and how that works
How do you create books and other products that are actually desired? One way to achieve this is through crowdfunding.
Bruno Gmünder is among the first publishers in Europe to successfully implement this strategy. Until now, various of our authors realized books through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter: Red Hot 100, Bare Strength, JoeBoys, and Michael Stokes’ most successful double project Always Loyal & Exhibition. Steeled with know-how from these projects, we will also publish crowdfunded books in the future.
But how does crowdfunding work? As with every project, we work very close with our artists. They reach out to their fans for support in creating a book. Depending on their contribution, the fans receive compensation—for instance, their name in the book, a copy of the book, or a hand-signed special edition. Thus, the product gains emotional value—which the fans eagerly tell their friends about via social media. This makes them part of the communication. That’s a good thing, as it helps to create demand for the product before it’s even released. As a retailer, you profit from this development, and we create greater diversity on the book market with relevant content. Crowdfunding also allows us to publish extravagant, crazy, special edition, and special interest books.
And why not think a step further? Why not collaborate directly with retailers in the future? Since this is where knowledge and a passion for books come together.
In order to definitely realize a project, it is necessary to have a good nose and to plan perfectly. This is our area of expertise. Furthermore, we help artists and authors gain greater fandom and establish recognition—all of which helps you as a retailer to increase your sales.
