We raise a glass to our great author Edmund White who celebrates his 76th birthday today. Right in time for this special day, New York Governor Cuomo appointed him State Author.
Edmund White is one of the most influential American contemporary writers. Together with other authors he was founder of the legendary Violet Quill group in the 1980’s. Violet Quill had a big influence on gay literature in the United States. White is author of bestselling books such as A Boy’s Own Story, The Beautiful Room Is Empty and The Farewell Symphony as well as the memoir books My Lives and Inside a Pearl. Bruno Gmünder publishes parts of his works in German.
Edmund White won several prices for his writings, e.g. the Award for Literature of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Deauville Festival Award for his oeuvre.
